Otitis Externa for us humans and most dog breeds is not common, our ears are a self-cleaning conduit, thus ear infections and cleaning are rarely necessary. English Bulldogs Puppies , French Bulldogs,  American Bulldog Puppies different, as a result of both high propensity to allergies (food, atopy) and badly-narrowed ear canal, it’s a very high probability that your bulldog puppy is going to develop an ear infection (Otitis Externa). This anatomical misfortune is a direct outcome of decades of  bully “smooched skull”  inbreeding.  The warm, moist, narrow ear canal is an ideal habitat for bacteria and yeast. Infection will intensify inflammation and itch. Swelling, excessive wax, and intense pain will soon follow.  This vicious cycle can tragically lead to an irreversible state of fibrosis, and then mineralization gradually replaces normal epithelium with total ear canal ablation surgery as the only viable alternative to ease the pain. Lastly, older bulldogs might have a hormonal imbalance that could affect their ears and can be determined based on medical findings and lab work.
