What Are Veterinary Specialists?

A board-certified veterinary specialist is a veterinarian who has achieved the highest level of training in their specific field, such as surgery, radiology, cardiology, or oncology.

This extensive process includes four years of undergraduate studies and four years of veterinary school. After earning their veterinary degree, the doctor completes a one-year rotating internship in their chosen field, then undergoes a three-year specialty residency. Finally, they must pass a rigorous certification exam to earn board certification in their specialty.

Veterinary Orthopedics and selected Soft Tissue Surgeries:

Dr. Cechner, a graduate of the University of Illinois, completed his surgical residency at Purdue University Veterinary School, where he later served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. I have had the privilege of knowing Dr. Cechner for 20 years, and from the very beginning, I have admired his exceptional work ethic, professionalism, and down-to-earth personality. His commitment to patient care is evident in his availability and willingness to meet with my clients whenever necessary. More importantly, my clients and their bulldogs benefit from his vast expertise and unparalleled surgical skills—offered at an affordable cost.

For over a decade, Dr. Cechner has collaborated with me to provide the best surgical solutions for the most common orthopedic and soft tissue conditions in bulldogs and bulldog puppies.

Beyond his surgical expertise, Dr. Cechner has been a dedicated friend and supporter of Southern California Bulldog Rescue (SCBR). Over the past 10 years, he has performed countless surgeries on rescue dogs at discounted rates and has regularly provided free consultations. He and his wife are honored guests at rescue events, and together, we have donated surgical services for fundraising raffles, with all proceeds benefiting bulldog rescue efforts.
