A dog’s ear canal is not a straight tube. It runs down and then turns, like a drainpipe with a bend in it, and on a bulldog it is narrower and hairier than most. Anything that gets in there, water from a bath, humidity, wax, has to travel uphill to get out again. So it does not. It sits in the bend, warm and damp, and yeast is very happy about that. 👂
This rinse is built around the three things that bend needs: cleaning to float out wax and debris, drying so moisture is not left behind, and acidifying, because a slightly acidic canal is a less welcoming place for yeast and bacteria to settle. The aloe and vitamins are there to keep it kind to a canal that may already be sore.
Here is the part owners tell me they did not expect: doing this weekly means you have your hands on those ears every week. You notice the slight smell, the head shake, the first pink tinge, at the stage when it is still a small problem. Most ear cases I see late were not sudden. They were simply unobserved.
So treat it as weekly maintenance, not a treatment for an ear that is already in trouble. And if your pet is sick, or an ear is painful, swollen, or your bully is tilting their head, check in with your veterinarian before putting anything in it. A rinse may complement veterinary treatment, but your vet should decide what belongs in that canal.
