Bully Advanced Ear Cleansing Wipes

A bulldog ear is built against itself. The canal is short and wide, it sits under a heavy flap that acts like a lid, there is hair growing in it, and there is usually a fold of skin at the entrance. Warm, dark, poorly ventilated and slightly damp. That is not a flaw you can train out of her, it is the breed, and it is the reason ear trouble is near the top of my appointment list every single week.

Think of a wipe as the doormat by your front door. It catches what comes in and what goes out, right at the entrance, which is where most of the mess actually collects. A liquid rinse is the mop that goes down the hallway, into the canal where your finger cannot reach. The doormat does not replace the mop. It just means the mop has far less work to do when you get round to it.

These wipes are alcohol free, so they do not sting, and they are built to clean, dry and gently acidify the surfaces they touch. The acidifying part is the piece owners tend to overlook: yeast and bacteria are happiest on a less acidic, damp surface, so taking wax, dirt and discharge off the flap, the inner pinna folds and the mouth of the canal, then leaving it drier, makes the ear a less welcoming place to settle. They are gentle enough for daily use, and with ears, frequency is usually what wins.

Use them as maintenance, not as a rescue. A quick wipe after baths, swimming, the beach or a dusty walk, plus a routine pass a couple of times a week, does more over a good few weeks than a frantic clean-up once something smells. Wipe what you can see and reach. Never push a wipe, a cotton bud or anything else down into the canal. If your bulldog is shaking her head, rubbing the ear along the sofa, the ear feels hot, smells strong or she objects when you touch it, stop and let your own veterinarian look first.
