What is that?

Pemphigus in bulldogs is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin epidermis. The treatment can be difficult and lengthy, the outcome might not be favorable.

Symptoms

Crusty, pus-filled lesions, that are often localized to the face and head, ears, and nose, in some cases they also involve the paws, or/and become generalized affecting the entire body.

Mast Cell Tumor

What is that?

Mast cell tumors can come in various forms and sizes, they are the most common skin tumor. They store histamine and are classified as types 1 (see photo) to 3 (aggressive), so early removal is critical.

Symptoms

They can present as small bumps to diffuse large edematous hard ones. Mast cells store histamine when released an inflammatory reaction with edematous redness will ensue. Unattended they can transform into a deadly aggressive form.

Bacterial Ear Infection

What is that?

Bacterial ear infections can be due to a wide range of organisms that mostly inhibit the external ear canal and are treated with bully topical therapeutics. If they reach the medial and inner ear systemic antibiotics will be required.

Symptoms

Ear infection usually inflicts pain and discomfort, itch, rubbing, purulent discharge, and bad ear odor.

Yeasty Ears

What is that?

Yeasty bully ears are due to yeast organisms. The fungi are part of your bulldog's skin and ear microflora. If the ear's skin barrier is injured, it will overgrow, and yeasty ear disease will ensue.

Symptoms

Yeasty bully ears are often itchy, thickened, crusty, swollen, discolored, and painful, with a smelly discharge. Dr. Kraemer's V4B bully rinses and wipes in low-cost bundles can help prevent and manage this condition.

Allergic Otitis

What is that?

Ear allergies are led by environmental atopic and food allergies. The ears are extensions of the skin thus dermatitis and otitis are often diagnosed simultaneously.

Symptoms

Itching and scratching are the hallmarks of allergies. You may also see inflammation, swelling, redness, a foul odor, or pain.

Ear Mites

What is that?

Ear mites are contagious parasitic infections that are transmitted from one pet to the other, the bugs can be diagnosed with a small power microscope. They are not common to bulldogs and Fr. Bulldogs

Symptoms

Ear mites can lead to head shaking, excess wax, redness itching around the head and ear base, dark discharge, discomfort, and pain.

Endstage Stenotic Ear

What is that?

The stenotic end-stage is an ear canal obstructed by often fibrous, calcified, or even ossified diseased tissue, mostly due to chronic unattended otitis compounded by allergy, or/and bacteria & yeast infectious otitis.

Symptoms

The end-stage bully ear is an irreversible ear disease, its very painful and stenotic often cauliflower thicken completely closed, hyperplastic, infected, purulent smelly ear canal.
