APPLICATION: Fill your bully ear canal to the top with a proper rinse, making sure to coat the entire canal. CLEANING: Take a cotton ball and stick it in as far as it will go using your fingers. There’s no need to be scared; you can’t go past the curve of the canal and damage the eardrum with a finger or a cotton ball, On the other hand, Q-tips should only be used for the top part and ear-flap folds (pinna). How do I know the ears are allergic and not just infected?

Allergic ears recur. They clear on medication and come back weeks later, usually in both ears, usually alongside itchy paws, belly or skin folds. A one-off infection in one ear is a different story.

Is it food or environmental allergy?

Environmental atopic allergy is more common and often seasonal. Food allergy tends to start younger, runs year-round and often comes with digestive signs. A strict elimination diet is the only way to separate them.

Why does my vet keep prescribing the same drops?

Because the drops treat the infection, which is the visible half of the problem. If nobody addresses the allergy underneath, the infection returns and the same prescription follows. Ask what the plan is for the allergy itself.

Can I prevent flares at home?
