Yeast Infection in Bulldogs and French Bulldogs CAUSE:

The proper medical term for this bulldog yeast organism is Malassezia pachydermatis.

It might be surprising to you to learn that Malassezia Pachydermatis normally resides on your bulldog skin and ear canals.

This yeast organism colonizes your bulldog and French bulldog puppy skin, toes, and ears soon after birth, becoming part of the normal cutaneous microflora of your happy, handsome, healthy bulldog puppy.

The causes of abnormal yeast overgrowth are:

  • SURFACE LIPIS: Alteration in your bulldog surface lipids
  • DAMPNESS: Increased moisture and humidity
  • BACTERIA: Increased bacteria numbers
  • SKIN BARRIER: Disruption of your bulldog skin barrier

OPPORTUNISTIC MICROORGANISMS BULLDOG YEASTY EARS:

The yeasty bulldog ear overgrown disease state is usually due to pathological changes in the skin and ear epithelial lining. It can be triggered by other primary underlying medical conditions, such as bulldog allergies.

Examples of those primary underlining ear and skin conditions would be

  • Bulldog allergy, atopic itch dermatitis,
  • Bulldog food allergy
  • Bulldog skinfolds moist dermatitis
  • Bulldog Demodex
  • Bulldog mange
  • Hormonal abnormalities like
    • Bulldog hypothyroid
    • Bulldog Cushing syndrome.

Yeast Infection as well as bulldog staph pyoderma, are usually secondary (opportunistic infection).

Dr. Kraemer’s Yeast Infection in Bulldogs TIP & WARNINGS:

Yeast in bulldogs DISTRIBUTION TIP:

Yeast Infection often resembles bacteria dermatitis (bulldog staphylococcal pyoderma), another common secondary opportunistic skin condition.

Yeast Infection in Bulldogs and French Bulldogs’ most common body parts are:

  • Your bulldog skin fold (face, nose, tail, vaginal, toes, interdigital)
  • The skin under the armpit
  • Groin area (inguinal) and limbs
  • Ears & Ear Canal

Bulldog Yeast Infection PRIMARY CAUSE TIP:

Always check for an underlying primary problem like

Remember yeast infections in bulldogs are usually secondary and not the primary cause.

Yeasty Infection in Bulldogs TOPICAL THERAPY

Yeast infection in bulldogs could take weeks to treat but should get better if the underlying medical condition is recognized and controlled.

As with any case of dermatitis always combine topical treatments (shampoos, gels, conditioners).

YEASTY BULLDOG & FR BULLDOG WARNINGS:

Allergic Bulldog TREATMENT FAILURE WARNING

Undiagnosed and or misdiagnosed secondary bulldog yeast infection and/or bulldog staph pyoderma are the most common reasons I see failure and lack of response to medication prescribed for the treatment of your bulldog itching and allergies.

Bulldog Yeast Infection IRREVERSIBLE DISEASE WARNING:

Undiagnosed chronic yeast infection of the ears can bring on chronic non-resolving otitis that can lead to end-stage ear disease forcing us to perform total ear canal resection with bulla osteotomy (TECA w LBO)

Yeast Infection in Bulldogs BACTERIA INFECTION WARNING:

Yeast Infection often resembles bacteria dermatitis and bacteria ear infection (bulldog staphylococcal pyoderma and bulldog staphylococcal otitis). Like yeast, those common bacterial infections are also secondary opportunistic skin dermatitis and ear otitis.
