Probiotics for Bulldog Bad Gas and Smelly Farts Question
Dr. Kraemetr, our French Bulldog puppy, Jasmine, has really bad (SBD) "silent but deadly"😀, Gas/farts.
Bully Probiotics For Gas and Flatulence
I just recently bought your prebiotic, in our latest delivery of supplements from vet4bulldog.
How long am I to give her a daily dose? And is this supplement safe for long time use.
FYI I feed both my Frenchie's, Royal Canin adult formula dry kibble for F.B.now. Evangers 100% farmed rabbit. Grain free biscuits, freeze dried salmon bites, Baltic spratzs. And Scottish salmon and sweet potatoes patties.
NO corn, wheat, beef, chicken or pork.
Our pups AKC, breeder fed her canned tuna 😝
Please advise, thank you.

Probiotics for Bulldog Bad Gas and Smelly Farts
Dear Debra And Jasmine
Loved the photos of both Frenchie's, thanks for sharing 💕🐾
🕵️♀️Let’s put on our detective hats and figure out what’s going on with Jasmine!
First, A Few Quick Questions, your answer will really help us connect the dots:
- Breathing: Does Jasmine summers from any breathing issues?
- Eating Style: Does she inhale her food and water like it’s a competitive sport?
- Quantities & Size: How many meals per day, and are they on the larger side?
- Duration: How long has this been happening? Constant or on-and-off?
- Sharing: Are both puppies eating the same food and getting the same supplements?
- Other: Any other symptoms such as
- retching
- vomiting
- loose stool
- etc.?
Is It Safe to Give the Bully Probiotic Long Term?
Dr. Kraemer's bully probiotics and digestive enzymes are safe for longer use, but they’re generally intended for intermittent use of medical conditions or compromised gut such as:
- Intermittent tummy upsets
- Pets with GI Disease:
- Pets with digestive problems
- Anything that disrupts the gut’s healthy bacteria (Gut dysbiosis). Such as drugs like
- immune-suppressive medications (steroids)
- long-term antibiotics
What Are Common Causes of Bulldog Gas & Flatulence?
Bulldogs are adorable… and sometimes impressively gassy 😅
Here are common contributors:
- Aerophagia: Eating too fast = swallowing air → bloat & gas
- BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome: Abnormal breathing can increase air swallowing)
- Food quality & digestibility (too fatty, high carb, overly processed)
- Obesity
- Fiber (Prebiotics): too much, too little, wrong type or poor quality
- Exercise timing around meals
- Meal size
- Feeding timing
- Medical conditions
- Food allergies
- IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
- Intestinal parasites
As you can see there are a lots of possibilities.
How Can I Prevent Bulldog Gas and Farts?
Right now though, you may be adding complexity when we actually need simplicity.
And with bulldogs… the more variables, the more mystery!
Step One: Simplify & Minimize, Right now we likely have too many variables (food types, treats, supplements, etc.).
So let’s strip things down and start clean.
Dietary Food Trial For Bulldog Gas and Fluctuance
Use one single diet for both dogs for a 2–3 week trial:
Simple Ingredient Blend Prescription GI Diet or Hypoallergenic Diet
- Hill’s Prescription Diet i/d or hypoallergenic Z/d
- Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN
Feed this diet exclusively for 2-weeks trail
- No treats
- No extras
- Both dogs on the same food (so Jasmine doesn’t sneak samples!)
During this period, watch carefully:
- Gas frequency and smell (improved or worse)
- Stool quality
- Let me know what you observe.
Helpful Feeding Tips For Excessive Gas and Fluctuances:
✔ Small, frequent meals
✔ Slow feeder (or even hand feeding if needed)
✔ Slightly raised food and water bowls
After this simplification phase, we can adjust one variable at a time if needed.
Gas and Fluctuances Screening Tests
In needed we can also add diagnostic tests such as
- fecal test
- blood test
- imaging
- etc
But first lets calm the system, reduce the noise, and give the gut a reset.
Looking forward to your update — we’ll figure this out together 💗
