Abnormal Eyelash

What is that?

Eyelash problems are abnormal eyelash growth common to bulldogs. They can arise from an abnormal location or grow in an abnormal manner. The most common are trichiasis, ectopic cilia, and distichiasis.

Symptoms

An eyelash that grows inward toward the eyeball will cause corneal irritation, severe pain, and injury (corneal ulcer). Spasmatic squinting and blinking, puffiness, redness, and shut eyes are common.

Urinary Stones

What is that?

Bulldog and French Bulldog urinary stones (uroliths or calculi) could be found in the kidney, ureter, bladder, and/or urethra. They are different types of stones such as cystine, urate, calcium oxalate, and struvites.

Symptoms

Bulldog urinary stones can cause a partial or a full urinary blockage, and injuries to the urinary tract wall. It can manifest as bloody, smelly, cloudy, discolored urine. Incontinence, strain, frequent urination, or no urination. Distended abdomen and pain.

Cystitis

What is that?

Symptoms

Bulldog cystitis usually presents with discomfort, pain, squatting, straining, and frequent urination. Blood in the urine is common.

Pyometra

What is that?

Bulldog pyometra is a life-threatening puss-filled uterine bacteria infection. It's more common in older intact females than younger ones. Early preventive spaying will prevent it.

Symptoms

Females with pyometra often have a distended abdomen and puss-like reddish cloudy discolored smelly vaginal discharge. They often have a fever, drink, & pee excessively might stop eating and appear ill.

UTI

What is that?

Bulldogs Urinary Tract Infection (UTI is a bacterial infection of the upper (kidney) or the lower tract. In female bulldogs, persistent UTI is often due to mismanaged vaginal fold moist dermatitis.

Symptoms

UTI bulldog exhibit discomfort, pain, squatting, straining, and frequent urination. There might also be frank blood, abnormal urine color, and a bad smell. Prevention includes our V4B URINARY LOW-COST BUNDLES

Cushing's Syndrom

What is that?

Bulldog Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism) is an endocrine disease that causes excess secretion of the adrenal gland cortisone hormone. The common reasons are tumors, either the brain pituitary (common) or the adrenal (rare).

Symptoms

An excessive appetite leads to weight gain and excessive water intake leads to excessive urination. You might notice the classic “pot belly” appearance (see photo). Also, suppressed immune system that oven leads to UTI and calcium skin deposits (calcinosis cutis)

Prolapse Urethra

What is that?

Prolapsed Urethra in bulldogs and French bulldogs males of the exposed mucosal layer of the tip of the penis inverting outward. It's more common in intact unneutered males.

Symptoms

The prolapsed exposed, rosy, red urethral, “bulge” is a delicate vascular tissue that can easily bleed, sometimes in a dramatic, unstoppable, scary fashion.
